How to use Contoura
Contoura is an entertainment app for iPhone. It describes the visible shape of your features and compares it with looks that are common in 20 broad world regions. Here is how a scan works and how to get a clear result.
What you get: a look-alike map of your face, hand and foot, with a region list for every feature and an overall mix.
What it is not: a DNA test, an origin test or an identity check. Results describe appearance only.
Step by step
Read and accept the consent screen
Before your first scan, Contoura explains where your photos go. Three boxes are required: you agree that photos are sent via kie.ai to Google Gemini, you are 16 or older and only scan yourself, and you understand the results are entertainment. A fourth, optional box turns on Face Studio uploads.
Choose what to scan
On Home, tap Face scan, Hand scan or Foot scan, or start a full scan with all three. You can skip any step; one photo is enough for a result.
Take a straight-on selfie
Look straight at the camera with your face centered. Daylight works best, with no harsh shadows. Remove sunglasses or a mask and use an unfiltered photo.
Photograph your hand and foot
For the hand, keep all fingers fully visible against a plain background. For the foot, shoot one bare foot straight down from above with all five toes clearly visible.
Let the app check the photo
On-device checks look at angle, blur, exposure and distance and tell you if a retake would help. Photos with more than one person, filters or a person who may be under 16 are not analyzed.
Wait for the analysis
Each photo is analyzed separately. The AI describes visible traits and gives look-alike scores; your iPhone then combines them into your final result.
Explore and share
Tap any point on the map to open that part. Read the look profile, browse the atlas, scan again later to compare, and share your result as story cards.
How to read your result
- Region list per feature: each part shows the regions its shape resembles most, with a percentage of similarity. The strongest link comes first.
- Overall mix: your iPhone combines all face and hand features into one mix. Nose and eyes count the most; the foot only gets a type and does not enter the mix.
- Look profile: a short write-up in plain words that names your clearest clue, the feature that pointed most clearly to a region.
- Confidence: colour, tone and depth depend on light and angle, so those parts are worded more carefully. A better photo gives a clearer read.
What is free and what is Premium
Your first scan is free and shows a partial result: the first region is open and the rest is blurred.
Contoura Premium (weekly or yearly) unlocks full results, unlimited scans and your full history. Contoura Pro (weekly or yearly) includes everything in Premium plus Face Studio with 10 AI edits a week. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.
Using Face Studio
Face Studio is optional, for ages 18 and up, and works only on your own saved face scan after you confirm “this is me”. Pick a feature, move its sliders and the app turns them into a small shape change.
Your face photo is uploaded temporarily to kie.ai's file server and edited by an image model. Skin tone, hair, expression and background stay the same. Results stay on your iPhone and carry an “AI-edited” mark when saved or shared.
Tips for a clearer read
- Face a window: soft daylight from the front beats overhead lamps.
- Hold the phone at eye level; tilting it changes how the nose and jaw look.
- Pull hair away from your face if you want brows and jawline read clearly.
- Skip beauty filters and portrait effects; edited photos are rejected.
- Scan again on another day and compare: light changes colour and tone more than shape.
Privacy and deleting your data
Scans are saved only on your iPhone, not in iCloud or on our servers. Delete a single scan by swiping it, or delete everything in Settings › Privacy & data, where you can also withdraw your consent. See the privacy policy for the full details.
